Subchannel are not stations
Please don't add false TV stations articles based on subchannels of stations like you did at WKTV-DT3. This is an encyclopedia and you should not make stuff up. Subchannels must meet WP:NOTABILTY or are otherwise cover it the actual station's article as per previous discussion Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations/Archive 10#Request for Comment: Notability of TV station subchannel articles. Spshu (talk) 19:59, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know about the error. I'd like to clarify though, that article was not the result of "making stuff up," as you suggested. At the time, WKTV became the CBS affiliate for the Utica area, so I split the articles, not knowing any better. Buffaboy talk 20:03, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Buffaboy. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
Ways to improve Del Lago Resort and Casino
Hi, I'm AngusWOOF. Buffaboy, thanks for creating Del Lago Resort and Casino!
I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This article needs more third-party sources to describe how the casino came to be, its specs, and how it is doing as a business.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

New images
Hey, just wanted to give you a big thanks for getting your camera into position to take some valuable pictures. The arrival of Little Rock in Buffalo, and of the Cotter escorting her are historic moments we would not otherwise have free license images for, had it not been for you. Great work and keep it up! Now, you need to stop slacking and start populating the project post-haste with more images from the Buffalo area :) Some suggestions:
- Taste of Buffalo, a street level photograph. This event is huge. It's great there's an overview image there, but one or more street level views would be nice.
- Allentown,_Buffalo#Allentown_Art_Festival; Ok, not as big of an event, but still notable. It'd be nice to have a photo.
- Medaille College; no image of the Buffalo campus.
- Sisters of Charity Hospital (Buffalo); no modern photograph.
- Kleinhans Music Hall; there's exterior shots, but nothing interior.
- Koessler Athletic Center; no picture at all there.
- Interstate 990; oddly, there's no image of the highway itself, except for the rather poor image at the terminus that doesn't really show the highway.
- Buffalo Niagara International Airport; no photograph from inside the terminal.
- Amherst State Park; no photo
- Villages Alden (village), New York, Depew, New York, East Aurora, New York, Orchard Park (village), New York, and Sloan, New York are all missing images.
So, there you go. Now get to work ;) --Hammersoft (talk) 15:00, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hammersoft I've been seeing your "thanks," thanks a lot! That's what my goal is when I go out there, to produce CC-ready photos for Wikipedia. It's really frustrating when I try to update articles, check Flickr or Commons or someplace and find really crappy or outdated (or "perfect" but copyrighted) pictures.
- Those are great ideas for photos. It also wouldn't be a bad idea if I updated other places/things with new photos since there are plenty from around 2007/2008 and earlier.
- By the way are you from the area? You seem to be as enthusiastic as I am about this! Thanks. Buffaboy talk 16:24, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, while there's a lot of CC stuff available here on lots of things (like, if you go through the historic register lists for any county), there are also big gaps. It was surprising to me how many villages in Erie County did not have images. That's easy. Just drive a bit, and done. Yet, it wasn't done. At least, not yet. I suspect I know someone who is about to do so :) I'm just glad we have a photo enthusiast in the area who did some good work, and I'm hoping we'll see a lot more :) I don't live there, but I have some friends in the area. --Hammersoft (talk) 16:30, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
- I definitely will be doing that, and I found the gap in images peculiar as well. At this point though, I might as well wait until the Spring when the flowers start to grow again and leaves grow. Winter pictures of Buffalo and the surroundings are depressing in a way. Buffaboy talk 16:36, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Kaleida Health's pages
Hi Buffaboy. I am the director of marketing for Kaleida Health and am updating the page. I am in the process of adding citations.
Thank you for your interest---can I ask how you are related to Kaleida Health? What is your role with this page? Thank you very much. 204.110.0.1 (talk) 19:16, 11 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks! I am interested in editing and cleaning articles related to the Western New York region, as they should conform with the Wikipedia guidelines for article design. As far as the Kaleida article is concerned, there's nothing wrong with editing it while working there as long as you disclose your ties as you just did. Again, thanks for helping out! Clarification
Thank you for the clarification Buffaboy. We are revising the text and removing outdated information. As new information comes out, we will be including it. For example, you will have noticed that some bed numbers changed and we added two hospitals.
Did you start this page or know who did? Obviously, we want factual information posted and want to ensure accuracy by working closely with the creator of this page. Thank you again for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.110.0.1 (talk) 19:35, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Erie Basin Marina
On 13 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Erie Basin Marina, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1900, a steamboat owned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad was stolen by two tugboats during the night from the Erie Basin Marina? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Erie Basin Marina. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Erie Basin Marina), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Did you know that you can now use the visual diff tool on any page?

Sometimes, it is hard to see important changes in a wikitext diff. This screenshot of a wikitext diff (click to enlarge) shows that the paragraphs have been rearranged, but it does not highlight the removal of a word or the addition of a new sentence.
If you enable the Beta Feature for "⧼visualeditor-preference-visualdiffpage-label⧽", you will have a new option. It will give you a new box at the top of every diff page. This box will let you choose either diff system on any edit.

Click the toggle button to switch between visual and wikitext diffs.
In the visual diff, additions, removals, new links, and formatting changes will be highlighted. Other changes, such as changing the size of an image, are described in notes on the side.

This screenshot shows the same edit as the wikitext diff. The visual diff highlights the removal of one word and the addition of a new sentence. An arrow indicates that the paragraph changed location.
You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.
Since the last newsletter, the Editing Team has spent most of their time supporting the 2017 wikitext editor mode, which is available inside the visual editor as a Beta Feature, and improving the visual diff tool. Their work board is available in Phabricator. You can find links to the work finished each week at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. Their current priorities are fixing bugs, supporting the 2017 wikitext editor, and improving the visual diff tool.
Recent changes
- The 2017 wikitext editor is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. It has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. The team have been comparing the performance of different editing environments. They have studied how long it takes to open the page and start typing. The study uses data for more than one million edits during December and January. Some changes have been made to improve the speed of the 2017 wikitext editor and the visual editor. Recently, the 2017 wikitext editor opened fastest for most edits, and the 2010 WikiEditor was fastest for some edits. More information will be posted at mw:Contributors/Projects/Editing performance.
- The visual diff tool was developed for the visual editor. It is now available to all users of the visual editor and the 2017 wikitext editor. When you review your changes, you can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. You can also enable the new Beta Feature for "Visual diffs". The Beta Feature lets you use the visual diff tool to view other people's edits on page histories and Special:RecentChanges. [1]
- Wikitext syntax highlighting is available as a Beta Feature for both the 2017 wikitext editor and the 2010 wikitext editor. [2]
- The citoid service automatically translates URLs, DOIs, ISBNs, and PubMed id numbers into wikitext citation templates. This tool has been used at the English Wikipedia for a long time. It is very popular and useful to editors, although it can be tricky for admins to set up. Other wikis can have this service, too. Please read the instructions. You can ask the team to help you enable citoid at your wiki.
Let's work together
- The team is planning a presentation about editing tools for an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation metrics and activities meeting.
- Wikibooks, Wikiversity, and other communities may have the visual editor made available by default to contributors. If your community wants this, then please contact Dan Garry.
- The
<references />
block can automatically display long lists of references in columns on wide screens. This makes footnotes easier to read. This has already been enabled at the English Wikipedia. If you want columns for a long list of footnotes on this wiki, you can use either<references />
or the plain (no parameters){{reflist}}
template. If you edit a different wiki, you can request multi-column support for your wiki. [3] - If you aren't reading this in your preferred language, then please help us with translations! Subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact us directly. We will notify you when the next issue is ready for translation. Thank you!
